This time we’ll introduce you to one of the cultural traditions preserved for centuries – Mummers Festival. Every year on the first Sunday of March, the streets of Shiroka Laka are filled with sounds and colors, and the bad thoughts and evil spirits are expelled. Mummers are men disguised as animals who wear masks on their heads, bells belt and are covered with coats of animals.

Mummers are one of the strongest traditions in Bulgaria preserved since the time of the Thracians. With this custom is celebrated the passing of winter and the onset of summer fertility.
